I am off to Syria!


Finally a holiday. I haven't been back home for a whole year. I have not done that since I first moved to London. I can't wait to get there tomorrow night and have my traditional just-got-out-of-the-plane dinner, Shawerma Arabi.

To all my regular readers, I am sorry I haven't been writing much and thank you for coming back to read the one or two posts I am managing to write every month. I have so much going on in my life at the minute. Way beyond what 24 hours day allows. Unfortunately the blog took the back seat.
I really need to revive my blog and start writing again.

I will try to get as much videos and pictures during my two weeks break to write all about it when I come back. I will also try to write reviews on few new restaurants in Damascus I am planning to visit.

I really hope I will have time!

  2. If I were going back to Syria or Jordan I would also hit the first shawerma stand I saw. Have a great time, and load up on ingredients!

  5. Have a nice trip to your beautiful city! Hope you'll do some good reccomendation once you're back... I was there last september, and the incredibly hot weather didn't allow me to taste all the places I'd have liked it.. though I was at Naranj and some other nice restaurants in the old city

    I wish to be there in near future. I wish to be at Palmyra(Tadmur) again and stay there for a month to know the people and old city.

  10. Your blog is wonderful. Just back from Syria and keen to have a try at all the lovely dishes I had at Naranj and in cafes. Just located sumac! (online, not at Sainsburys!) Please do add recipes when you can, and in the meantime I will try my hand at these. Lots to be going on with. Your wife's hummus was the first and it came out very well.

    I am back from Syria safely for a while now. I haven't updated the blog since as I am simply not able to. My mind is occupied with all the sad events unfolding in my beautiful country.

    Everytime I try to write, words are choked in my throat.

I'm heading to the middle east from the U.S. for the first time in 2 weeks, was so excited to go to Syria but probably not going to happen now.. :( I'm glad to hear you're back safely from your recent trip and hoping good results for Syria asap.

    I suppose food is the last thing on your mind now, but your fans in Doha wish you all the best.

    We found a delicious shanklish here. Is it usually made from goat's milk?

    We also found the herbal tea mix we bought in Damascus makes a nice chilled tea in the hot weather here.

    I too had my heart set on visiting Syria this year to see for my own eyes the vibrant markets and spectacular dishes I have read and blogged so much about.

    My thoughts are with you and I hope you start up the blog soon.
